Summary

In this paper, we propose a method of color image enhancement, which adapts to the characteristics of human visual perception. As a concrete method, the chroma of a color image is first independently enhanced while preserving the hue and lightness in the RGB color space. Next, the lightness is corrected in the CIELAB color space to consider the Helmholz-Kohlraush effect, which indicates the relation of the hue, chroma, and lightness in human visual perception. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in experiments using several digital images.
