This study investigated the current situation of university students majoring healthcare and welfare withrespect to the reality shock they perceive in schoolwork. A multiple-choice questionnaire was conducted among 126 students majoring nursing, nutrition, and social welfare. Among 15 question items, 6 were considered to correlate to reality shock with the majority of the students: lectures being “overwhelming,”“unstimulating,” or “incomprehensible,” along with practices/exercises being “overwhelming,”“hard to deal with,” and “demandingfor much higher skills.” Of those, the students who had been unsuccessful to overcome their reality shockoutnumbered the ones who could. Also, the students who did not take on any coping behaviors outnumbered the ones who did, for example by consulting someone.
