The vivid colors are perceived as brighter than dull colors which have same lightness. This phenomenon is known as the Helmholtz-Kohlrausch (H-K) effect. Hence, in the case where the chroma is changed before and after the image processing, the perceived lightness is also changed even if the physical lightness is preserved before and after the image processing. In this study, a new color transfer method considering the H-K effect is proposed. In the usual color transfer, the input image is colored by using the color of the reference image, and the lightness of the input image may be changed. In the proposed method, by considering the H-K effect, the color transfer which preserves the perceived lightness before and after processing is realized. The effectiveness
of the proposed method is verified by some experiments.
